Aichi Profiles

The Asian Transport Outlook (ATO) serves as a key knowledge hub and reference platform for monitoring the progress of the 2030 Aichi Declaration on Environmentally Sustainable Transport (2021-2030). This Declaration aims to make transport in Asia more sustainable by setting six ambitious goals:

  • Goal 1 – Environmental Sustainability:
    • 1a: Promote low-carbon transport to mitigate climate change
    • 1b: Build resilience to climate-related hazards and other disruptions
    • 1c: Reduce air pollution and its health impacts
  • Goal 2 – Road Safety: Halve deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents.
  • Goal 3 – Economic Sustainability: Promote green investments and economic growth in the transport sector.
  • Goal 4 – Rural Access: Improve rural communities' connectivity to markets, services, and opportunities.
  • Goal 5 – Urban Access: Enhance inclusive, safe, and sustainable urban transport systems.
  • Goal 6 – National Access and Connectivity: Foster integrated multi-modal infrastructure to strengthen rural-urban and regional connectivity.

To support and accelerate progress towards these goals, the ATO has systematically collected, collated, and organized relevant data, policies, and insights from publicly available official and secondary sources. This comprehensive data enables robust tracking, monitoring, and evaluation of achievements across the Aichi Goals.

A major outcome of this effort is the creation of the "Aichi 2030 Country Profiles", an initial set covering 18 developing countries in Asia and the Pacific. These profiles are meticulously developed using ATO's extensive databases and national policy trackers, offering:

  • Goal-Specific Insights: Each profile is structured around the six goals, providing a clear and organized assessment of national progress.
  • Policy Summaries: Key national targets and strategies are highlighted, illustrating commitments to sustainable transport.
  • Project Examples: The profiles enumerate relevant projects supported by multilateral development banks (MDBs) that align with the Aichi Goals.

By serving as a reliable data-driven resource, the ATO empowers policymakers, stakeholders, and development partners to make informed decisions, identify gaps, and prioritize actions to achieve a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive transport future in Asia.
