This report explores insights on Kathmandu's urban structure and transport and how it shapes the key trends of the city’s transport activity and externalities.

Walking, cycling, and informal public transit are the primary modes of transportation, accounting for the majority of passenger trips. However, motorized two-wheelers dominate the vehicle market, comprising around 80% of registered vehicles. Both the number of trips and vehicles are projected to increase significantly by 2030.

Kathmandu's urban design encourages car-free areas, resulting in a significant portion of trips being made on foot. Public transportation is reasonably accessible, with over half of the population having convenient access to bus stops. However, the usage of formal or informal public transit remains low, and the allocated budget for transit is limited.
